Why do starbucks cups look smaller?

23 Jul

I picked up a tall iced green tea latte after lunch today. I noticed two things that were different about the cup. First, the cup looks a bit smaller. Is it just me? I need to confirm this. The second thing I noticed is that the straw cut out on the lid now has three intersecting lines instead of two. This is cool.

I was standing at the checkout line at Meijer when I saw these Coconut M&M’s. (Image is from http://www.mms.com/us/about/products/coconut/)

Zucchinis continued… denjangjjigae

19 Jul

I’ve been eating a lot of zucchinis. For dinner tonight, I made denjangjjigae (korean miso soup) with lots of zucchinis. This is one of my favorite soups of all time. I can eat it every day and not get tired of it!

If you’re interested in making this, here’s a very brief version of how I make this soup.

Ingredients:

veggies cut up into bite size pieces (you can add pretty much anything you like but these are some of the main ones I usually put in); zucchini, onion, potato, eggplant, bean sprouts, mushroom, green onion, peppers

soft tofu, dried anchovies for broth, korean miso paste, korean red pepper paste (go chu jang, this is optional)

Instructions:

Throw in some dried anchovies into a pot of water, let it boil for a bit so the broth is nicely flavored. Add the miso paste and red pepper paste to the broth. (You need very little of the red pepper paste) Throw in all the veggies and boil for a few minutes. Add the tofu last and let it boil another few minutes. That’s pretty much it. It’s very easy and quick.

Sewing machine manuals

18 Jul

I am a total newbie to sewing. Although I’ve had my sewing machine for while (my husband got it for me for Christmas years ago before we got married). I’ve made a few simple things (pillows and an apron) and hemmed a few pairs of jeans, I haven’t used it for about four years. So, yesterday, I attended a sewing party at my church, without my manual because I couldn’t find it. To sum up my sewing, it was straight up terrible. I could not figure out how to thread the darn thing, figure out what knobs are for what, etc. So, I go online trying to download a PDF version of the manual. To my surprise, the sewing machine maker doesn’t have anything like that on their site and people are SELLING pdfs of the manual! This is crazy! Luckily, my manual is no longer missing. If anyone needs the manual for Viking Scandinavia 100, email me!

Zucchinis, zucchinis and more zucchinis

16 Jul

I never knew how fast zucchinis grow! Add to that, my mom is unloading her zucchinis on me. I have more than we, a family of three who never eats at home, can eat! Zucchini bread anyone? I am going to try this recipe.

What is it?

16 Jul

Last night, my neighbor asked what plant we’re growing on the side of our house, near some rose bushes. The picture you see is just one of these plants (ok, it’s a gigantic weed) my husband pulled out. My neighbor, Everett, is holding it up for me like it’s a prize. My reaction was, “OMG, what the heck is that thing? No way! That is the biggest weed I’ve ever seen in my life! Holy Crap! I can’t believe I never saw it!” It’s also the strangest looking weed I’ve ever seen. So, what is it exactly?
